Assessment and Testing

Assessment in the Rolla 31 School District is systematic, multi-dimensional, and designed to address the needs of students and provide insights to teachers. Accordingly, the district strives to develop a local assessment plan which will supplement state level testing without duplicating it. A balanced assessment plan should address the needs of students and provide insights to teachers regarding what learning has and has not been mastered. Data from assessments should be used to diagnose areas of strength and to customize instruction to address student needs.

The purposes of the district wide assessment plan are to facilitate and provide information for the following:

  • To produce information about relative student achievement so that parents/guardians, students and teachers can monitor academic progress.

  • To serve as a tool for implementing the district's student guidance program.

  • To provide data that will assist in the preparation of recommendations for instructional program changes to:

    • Help teachers with instructional decisions, plans and changes regarding classroom objectives and program implementation.

    • Help the professional staff formulate and recommend instructional policy.

    • Help the Board of Education adopt instructional policies.

  • To provide indicators of the progress of the district and individual schools toward established goals; i.e., Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), Strategic Plan and Goals for Education.

  • To ensure the district obtains and maintains accreditation.
