SUPERINTENDENT HOUNSOM ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM
ROLLA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Mr. Craig Hounsom has announced his retirement from the Rolla School District, effective June 30, 2023. Superintendent Hounsom has been employed by the district since 1993 and is currently completing his 30th year at Rolla Public Schools. He began his career at Rolla Junior High and Rolla High School teaching Math and coaching football and basketball. He then served 5 years as the Assistant Principal at Rolla Middle School, 3 years as the Principal at Rolla Junior High, 11 years as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and the past 3 years as the District Superintendent.
Mr. Hounsom is originally from Putnam County, and a graduate of Putnam County High School in Unionville, MO. He has attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math from Truman State University, a Master of Arts in Education from Truman State University, and an Education Specialist degree in Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Mr. Hounsom is a member of the Missouri Association of School Administrators, Missouri State Teachers Association, and Rolla Certified Teachers Association. Additionally, he served as a past member of the Board of Directors for Sports Incorporated of Rolla, the Kiwanis Club, and continues to serve as an ex-oficio member of CORE and the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hounsom and his family plan to remain in Rolla.

Lora and I are incredibly grateful our children have been able to experience all the wonderful teachers and programs this district offers and for the supportive work environment we have both experienced”, Hounsom said in reflection of his time at Rolla Public Schools. “I am proud to call this community home and I look back fondly at all of the dedicated staff I have worked with, the amazing students I have seen grow and flourish, and the support of this community for everything the district embodies. It has been a wonderful 30 years in the district and I know more great things lie ahead.”
Mr. Hounsom will be deeply missed by colleagues and students at Rolla Public Schools, and his commitment to the students, staff, and families of this community is appreciated. The search for a new Superintendent will begin soon. Mr. Hounsom will continue to lead the RPS District through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
